Expanding Capacity to Care

Expanding Capacity to Care Initiative

This initiative was created to provide “more services to more people” and finalize the organization’s local solution to a national problem: the lack of affordable healthcare to the underprivileged. This unprecedented growth initiative sets the stage to double the number of people served by the clinic in three years.

Building Donated to The Way Free Clinic

Thanks to a generous donor, the Clinic has acquired a 5,100 sq. ft. commercial office building on College Drive in Orange Park directly across from the St. Johns River State College and the Thrasher-Horne Center. The donated building, which is on a one-acre lot, is scheduled to be renovated and will be utilized as the new clinic headquarters. This new location is within close proximity of numerous health and community services agencies, as well as all three Clay-based hospitals. The new facility will dramatically increase The Way Free Clinic’s ability to reach more patients in need.

Dental Clinic

The Way Free Clinic is currently in negotiations to integrate Clay County’s only free dental clinic into the new facility. The integration of the dental clinic into our operation will help support the expansion of dental care options to low-income residents.

ClayPASS: Coordinated Medical Care Initiative

This program under development is a county-wide initiave to unite health care providers and government agencies to put together the puzzle pieces of how to navigate and serve the uninsured population in Clay County. This initiative will enable patients to receive free or discounted care, while reducing unnecessary hospital utilization, saving the health care systems millions of dollars each year.

The Way Clinic is the lead partner in the initiative and the organizations involved in planning, implementation, and operation of the network will include:

  • Ascension St. Vincent's Clay County Hospital
  • Baptist Clay Medical Center
  • HCA of Florida Orange Park Hospital
  • The Palms Medical Group
  • Aza Health
  • Clay County Sheriff's Office Detention Center
  • Clay County Department of Health
  • Clay County Fire & Rescue Community Paramedicine Program
  • Health Planning Council of NE FL.

The project is endorsed by Impact Clay, the county’s emerging community services project incubator whose leadership includes the Presidents of each of the three Clay-based hospitals.

Operating the Two Clinic System

The beginning of a countywide "hub and spoke" medical system for the underprivileged, the new College Drive clinic and the existing Green Cove Springs clinic will be run in tandem. This will immediately double medical care access points for the uninsured and provide easier access in the heart of the county. Future expansion will include extending services into the more rural areas of Clay County. The operational cost of running the second clinic facility will be approximately $100,000 each year.

This endeavor can only be reached through the generosity of individual donations, grants, and business partners.
